SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 399 new COVID-19 infections as of
noon on Tuesday (Jul 21), with nine infections in the community, said the
Ministry of Health (MOH).
This brings the total number of cases in the country to 48,434.
"The higher number of cases today is mainly due to a batch
of test results from the previous day reported to MOH after the 12pm cut-off
for yesterday’s reporting," said the ministry.
The community cases comprise a Singaporean, three work pass
holders and five work permit holders.
Seven were picked up as a result of surveillance and
screening and two had already been placed on quarantine
earlier. Eight of the cases are asymptomatic, and were detected through
testing.
Three of the community cases linked to previous cases or
clusters. Of these, two had been identified as contacts of previously confirmed
cases and had been placed on quarantine earlier. They are
asymptomatic and were tested during quarantine to determine their status.
The remaining case, a 23-year-old Malaysian, is also
asymptomatic and was swabbed as part efforts to screen individuals working
in frontline COVID-19 operations.
The man, known as Case 48154, is linked to the cluster at Toh
Guan Dormitory. A total of 855 confirmed COVID-19 infections have been linked
to the dormitory at 19A Toh Guan Road East.
Epidemiological investigations are in progress for the six
unlinked cases. All of them were detected from proactive screening of
workers in essential services who are living outside the dormitories, even
though five of them are asymptomatic.
The unlinked cases comprise three Indian nationals, two
Bangladesh nationals and one Chinese national.
Serological tests will be conducted for their household
contacts to determine if these cases could have been infected by them.
JOO CHIAT COMPLEX FAIRPRICE ADDED TO LIST
OF PLACES VISITED BY COVID-19 CASES WHILE INFECTIOUS
A FairPrice outlet at Joo Chiat Complex was added to the list of
locations visited by COVID-19 cases during their infectious period. It was
visited on Jul 13 from 7.35pm to 8.40pm, and those who have been identified as
close contacts of the confirmed cases would have already been notified by MOH.
There are also three imported cases who were isolated or placed
on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.
The cases include two work pass holders who arrived in Singapore
from India on Jul 9. Both men, who are Indian nationals, were
asymptomatic.
The remaining case had arrived in Singapore from the Philippines
on Jul 19 and was taken directly to the National Centre for Infectious
Diseases as he was symptomatic. The Philippine national is a seaman
currently holding a special pass who will join a vessel that called in
Singapore's port.
"Overall, the number of new cases in the community has
decreased, from an average of 13 cases per day in the week before, to an
average of 10 per day in the past week.
"The number of unlinked cases in the community has also
decreased, from an average of seven cases per day in the week before, to an
average of six per day in the past week," said the ministry.
The rest of the new cases are work permit holders residing
in foreign worker dormitories, MOH added. No new clusters were
reported.
Of the new cases, 96 per cent are linked to known clusters,
while the rest are pending contact tracing. Further details can be found in the
ministry's daily situation report.
MOH said the Inter-Agency Task Force has been systematically and
progressively clearing dormitories through "aggressive testing" of
migrant workers residing in dormitories.
Woodlands Lodge II (190 Woodlands Industrial Park E7) and SSKBJV
Dormitory (31A Tanah Merah Coast Road) have been cleared, and now house only
recovered individuals and those who have recently tested negative for COVID-19
infection. As such, the clusters have now been closed.
MOH said 213 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 44,584 have fully recovered from COVID-19.
There are 170 cases who are still in hospital. Most of them are
stable or improving, with no patients in the intensive care unit.
A total of 3,653 are isolated and cared for at community
facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but
still test positive for COVID-19.
More shopping malls and eateries were on Monday added to MOH's list of public places visited by COVID-19 cases while infectious.
The locations also included a gym, ChimpChamp Fitness
at Orchard Gateway, and a spa, Yunomori Onsen and Spa at Kallang Wave
Mall.
Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said last Friday that
Singapore must be prepared for a second wave of COVID-19 infections, citing
the resurgence of cases in other countries.
